Facebook Updates Page Likes and Follows

Facebook is rolling out a new feature that will change the way people follow and like pages. This new update, Page Experience will allow users to “Like” a page but not necessarily require that they “Follow” the page. In the past when a person liked a page the person automatically followed them and would from then on until requested otherwise receive notifications from the page.

This means a couple of things for small businesses that rely heavily on Facebook follows and likes. One of the main things is during the transition it is very easy to lose track of your followers, making a post about this update and assuring your followers on the ways that they can stay in touch and up to date with you during this next phase of Facebook changes is imperative.

The new update will not transfer over followers unless a person specifically follows the page.  Just liking the page no longer will be enough to follow the page, the person will have to like and follow the page in order to keep up to date with their latest posts and news. The new update will also no longer display page likes, it will only show the number of people who follow the person or business.

There are some positives to the update, the design is simpler and more effective when it comes to sharing your information amongst your followers. The update to the new Page Experience also offers up easier navigation between a person’s personal page and their business page or pages that they manage. This is extremely helpful as it is sometimes confusing and makes for posts that were posted onto the wrong accounts by mistake. This update will also allow users to follow personal profiles in addition to business pages.
