Instagram’s Timeline Will Push Up Your Favorites

Instagram's Timeline Will Push Up Your Favorites

It has been reported that one of the latest features Instagram will be rolling out soon is one that will affect users’ personal feeds on the photo and video sharing platform. This new update will push the most visited and most engaged with profiles that a user is following to the top of their feed so that their “favorites” are the first thing they see when they log on to Instagram and whenever they refresh their timeline. Instagram’s algorithm that helps pinpoint which users are someone’s favorite and who they view the most is already used for stories and boosts stories from people who are “favorites” of users. This same algorithm and concept will be used for the Instagram feed.

This new feature is beneficial for some users as it will put the posts from their followers that they interact with and engage the most at the top of their feed and will, in turn, allow them to interact even more frequently with them. Some users are not fully on board with this new update. Some people are very particular in that they feel that an Instagram feed should be in chronological order. When the app places people’s posts out of order, it creates some not-so-positive opinions.

Overall this new update could impact the way people take in and engage with content on Instagram. The order in which consumers interact with and view posts is significant, and companies will have to find new and engaging ways to get into the top of users’ feeds so they are more prominent and more likely to be viewed.
